SUBJECT:  The European Asbestos Risks Association (EARA)                                           Trieste, 6 April 2009

Dear Mr. President, dear Madames and Sirs,

we are glad to introduce non profit association EARA, its aims, its present and future programmes which mainly deal with scientific research, multimedial information and congressual activities.

The European Asbestos Risks Association onlus (EARA) was founded on January 9th,  2008 in Trieste with the contribution of two important non profit subjects, such as the Associazione esposti Amianto ed Altri rischi ambientali from Padova and the Zveza SABS (Sindikat Azbestih Bolnikov Slovenije) from Nova Gorica. High level institutional subjects have decided in the meantime to collaborate with EARA: the top ones are Centro di Biomedicina Molecolare (Cluster in Biomedicine) from Area Science Park in Basovizza (Trieste); the Istituto Nazionale Assicurazioni Infortuni sul Lavoro (INAIL); the Federsanita – ANCI (Associazione nazionale Comuni d’Italia) Friuli Venezia Giulia; the A.I.C.C.R.E. (Associazione italiana Comuni e Regioni d’Europa); the Port authority of Trieste. Future contacts will be established with the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Medical School in Frankfurt am Main, particularly with dr Ivan Djikic, a young croatian researcher who dedicates his life studies to defeat asbestos correlated deseases.

During this current year 2009, EARA is organizing an International convention on Asbestos problems which will be held in Trieste on the forecoming month of December. Experts from Europe and the United States will be invited to participate. EARA’s mission concerns the developement of genomic research on deseases caused by asbestos, this for a lack of early diagnosis and cures. A very hard struggle against the mortal coils of an invisible enemy that will all keep us very busy for the immediate future. In this first year of activities, EARA has set the bases for a series of important projects which aim is to keep public opinion informed on all the dangers and pathologies – one above all, pleural mesothelioma – tied to the undiscriminated use of asbestos, toghether with the consequent legal and juridical problems in relationship with it; last but not least, tell people about all the progresses done by scientific research and medicine, and the status quo on the draining of polluted areas in Europe.

For the World Asbestos Victims Day, yearly held on April 28th, EARA onlus , in cooperation with our croatian partners, will celebrate this important event for the current in Rijeka, as done in the past years in Padova, Trieste and Ljubljana/Brdo, looking forward to meet next year in Klagenfurt for this same happening.

Thanking you for your kind attention,  best regards.
